Tree Management Plans

  A Tree Management Plan sets out a structured, prioritised programme of care for a tree stock over a defined period, typically between three and five years. It is the most effective way for owners and managers of larger sites to approach their trees strategically rather than reactively, and to demonstrate that their duty of care is being met on an ongoing basis.

The plan draws on a condition and risk survey of the existing stock and uses those findings to prioritise works by urgency, with a clear rationale for each recommendation. The emphasis is always on sustainable, proportionate management: identifying what genuinely needs doing, when, and why, rather than producing a programme of works that generates unnecessary expenditure.

For local authorities, housing associations, estates, and other organisations managing significant tree stocks, a well-structured management plan also provides a defensible record of responsible stewardship, and a practical basis for budgeting and procurement.
